Mac A Zoe Interview w/ Mikey T

Koopsta Knicca - Slippin Part 2

2 Chainz Been Nice

As 2 Chainz prepares to release his highly anticipated album T.R.U. Realigion, he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. Continuing a takeover that's seen his national profile raised considerably, & his songs on constant rotation in every club we hit, we couldn't help but wonder, what took y'all so long? Since the first D.T.P. album, we've been checking for the ex Alabama State basketball player, formerly known as Tity Boi.
D.T.P. ft. Tity Boi, I-20, & Ludacris - Smoking Dro
Check him out on the first verse.
Playaz Circle - Play Pen To The State Pen
"Even with this wife beater on, I still got something up my sleeve"
Ludacris ft. Shareefa, Lil Fate, Playaz Circle, Norfclk, Field Mob and I-20 - Family Affair
You couldn't tell us then, or now, that 2 Chainz & Dolla Boy didn't steal the show on that one.

Joe Budden Interview

Joe Budden stopped by Silver Spring, Maryland on Monday night to be a guest judge for the Redbull Emsee: DC event at the Fillmore. Before judging the freestyle competition with Devin the Dude and Big K.R.I.T, he sat down with Drank and Dank to discuss a few things including his Mood Muzik series and his signing with Shady Records.

How did you come up with the concept of the Mood Muzik series?

Joe: Well with Mood Muzik it stemmed from such an unhappy place. I mean it’s really as simple as I was shelved on my major label and I didn’t have an outlet.  Everybody was force-feeding me how these records that contained emotion… nobody gave a fuck about. I just begged to differ. So everybody at the time, mixtapes were really big, and everybody was doing “Best of…” mixtapes and I just thought I would do a “worst of…”. It was kind of to mock people that thought these songs had no place in hip-hop. I was so fucked up at the time during Mood Muzik 1 that it was just a bunch of old songs but Mood Muzik 2 I guess really caught everyone’s attention and kind of became a cult classic.

Bun B Interview

We recently had the honor and the pleasure to chop it up with the Trill O.G. himself Bun B at the press session for the Red Bull Emsee D.C. event. Eloquent and loquacious, he covered a range of topics, including the Occupy Movement, Pimp C's legacy as a musician, Dj Screw's house and more. The session was conducted with 3 outlets at a time, with the first question and every third after that being ours.
You've been to Occupy Houston and Occupy D.C., what is it about the #Occupy Movement makes you want to be a part of it?
Just addressing things that I think effects everybody. I think the misconception of the occupy movement is that everybody's unemployed, everybody's lazy, that they don't want to work. That they're just out there trying to make trouble, which couldn't be further from the truth. These are people concerned about the community, concerned about the direction this world is leaning towards. They're concerned  that as taxpayers and citizens who vote, they don't have a part in the political process. It's just things & themes that we've been talking about for a long time, we've been left out of the loop for so long. I support anybody that's willing to take a stand against what's bullshit basically. Specifically when you deal with bullshit on a government level, because it's hard when you decide you want to take a stand on that level. Anybody who chooses to do that needs as much help as they can. It's a lot of different millionaires and billionaires helping out the Tea Party with their movement. I just figured whatever power or help I can bring to the Occupy Movement, I would do that. I don't have money like the Koch brothers, or nothing like that, so I'm just helping them with my voice.

Red Bull EmSee DC

Red Bull Emsee Underdogs Take the Trophies

By Mike Andrews
The order of battle was decided by the flip of a coin, but the crowd’s support was often flip-flopped just as easily. As the night ended at the Fillmore in Silver Spring for the 2011 Red Bull Emsee: DC show, the spotlight was obviously left on the two least likely candidates of the night.
A free event, The Red Bull Emsee: DC show drew lines starting nearly three hours outside the new Silver Spring Venue and ultimately “sold out” an hour after doors opened. The show featured a pyramid-structure rap battle featuring eight of the area’s best freestyle battlers hosted by Texas rap legend, Bun B. Short performances were held between rounds by the night’s guest judges: Joe Budden, Devin the Dude and Big K.R.I.T.

Southern Hospitality Presents: ‘No I.D. On The Track Let The Story Begin…’ Mixed by Rob Pursey & Superix

Hearing first Kanye, and then of course Jigga, reference No I.D. in recent years was a truly heartwarming moment for all those who'd been such rabid fans in the 90s of both his early production work for Common and of course his own criminally slept on album with Dug Infinite 'Accept Your Own And Be Yourself (The Black Album)'. However, that was nothing compared to him recently being named Vice President of Def Jam, a worthy position for someone who never stopped working and has had, and is clearly still yet to have a massive influence on hip-hop music. In fact despite various dope production credits dotted throughout the last decade, it would seem that he's having more than a minor renaissance with his stellar work on much of the Big Sean album, records with others from the new generation J. Cole, Ed Sheeran, Wale etc. and perhaps most significantly his re-uniting with Common on the killer new records he's been releasing; not to mention that new Nas album.
This therefore, much like our other producer mixes for the likes of Rick Rock, Droop-E, The Dream, Mr. Lee, Ryan Leslie, Teddy Riley etc, is our dedication to No I.D. Featuring his production (and some co-production) work from back when he began using the name (previously Immenslope for Common's first album) it includes jams from the 90s, 00s and now – including album tracks, singles – a few guest appearances and solo cuts from the man himself and just hella dope rap music! Whilst by no means is this meant to be comprehensive – it hopefully shows why he's not only stayed in the game after mentoring one of rap's biggest stars (word to Kanye), but that his contribution is perhaps now at its most significant.
Putting this together myself and Superix were reminded of just how much we enjoy his music and that (original) Black Album has got back in rotation for the millionth time – ha! So we hope y'all enjoy it too!
