If the definition of real as it pertains to hip-hop is living your lyrics, then New Orleans rapper DEE-1 is as real as it gets. Eschewing the subject matters of standard rap radio fare, he has messages of upliftment and accountability. Recently the former Middle School Teacher released "I Hope They Hear Me Vol. 2", and visited Washington D.C. to speak at a hip-hop State of the Union panel that coincided with the Presidents speech. We spoke with him on these subjects, working with Mannie Fresh, and the fight to free McKinley "Mac" Phipps.
